Kenyans have come out in support of a father who sneaked out a baby out of Kenyatta National Hospital over unpaid bill.
The 22-year-old father was accused of smuggling his month-old baby from the Kenyatta National Hospital in an attempt to avoid paying a Sh56,000 bill has pleaded guilty to the offence.
Kenyans throughout the social media came out in support of Boniface Murage who admitted the offence before Senior Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe at the Milimani Law Courts.
Majority of Kenyans said what Murage did was the thinkable thing any
poor Kenyan would do for the love of a child, noting that expensive
health charges in Kenyan hospital were affecting millions of Kenyans
According to court papers, Bonface Murage Wangechi, 22, had hidden his baby in a bag and tried to walk out of a Ksh 56, 937 hospital bill.
He was intercepted by security guards of the hospital while carrying a blue bag on February 16, 2019, who forcefully opened it only to find a baby.
Murage was actually charged with an attempt to commit a crime contrary to section 389 of the Penal Code and the crime is the defraud KNH some 56k by taking away his one month old baby without clearing the bill. The penalty under that law should be half of the amount of fine for actual defrauding KNH. He may be a criminal by law but a hero by the standards of every father worth the title.
He will be remanded until Tuesday when the court will hear charges preferred by the prosecution before sentencing.
