County Government of Nyeri has distributed thousands of fish fingerlings to farmers at Kirimukuyu Ward in Mathira-West Sub-County in a move aimed at boosting food security
The over 10,000 Tilapia fingerlings are expected to be ready for harvest after a period of six months.
Speaking to farmers,Governor Kahiga also promised to establish a tourism park in the area.
The advantages of cage fish farming is that fish live in their natural habitat.
The cages offer fish protection from predators besides controlled feeding and harvesting.
A similar method of fish farming is being practised at Chinga Dam, Othaya thus establishing income generating projects for the locals.
Present were, Kirimukuyu MCA Hon. Anthony Ndagita, CEC Agriculture Robert Thuo, CEC Trade Diana Kendi, C.O Agriculture Ruth Mwangi, Water CEC Fredrick Kinyua and Ward administrator Peter Wang’ondu.
