Residents of Kieni Constituency have told their leaders to ensure the Mega Naromoru and Karemeno dams are actualized in current Jubilee Government regime.

The Expansive multi-purpose dams works have stalled since President Uhuru Kenyatta toured the area and promised their construction.

The residents are now up in arms against their elected leaders who they accuse of failing to fastback.

Kieni is the only semi-arid area in Nyeri County which is always faced by drought due to water shortage despite being arable and holding the future of the bloating population of the Nyeri highlands

Residents expressed their anger before a visiting team from the National Assembly at Nyamachaki hall in Nyeri town to collect views from members of the public on the 2019/2020 financial year.

Kieni stand to benefit from Sh 1.5 Billion towards construction of Karemenu dam, over 4.5 Billion for various roads,Kieni TTI in Karichen,Sh100 million for Naromoru Health center
plus different Funds for electricity connections projects.

Kieni Mp said he was trying to address the few bottlenecks to ensure the projects kicks off.

The residents also demanded that a Mega dam to serve the larger Munyu and Lusoi should be factored in during the allocations for Karemeno and Naromoru dams.

The only river (Nairobi river) serving Munyu and Lusoi and the larger parts of Kieni East has dried up due to over exploitation.

Residents are currently lacking water for domestic use due to to many projects set up along the river resulting to water rationing.

“As the legislator of Kieni constituency, iam am happy to report that I am also pushing for funds for construction of Kiawara Level IV hospital and Kiawara Kenya Medical Training College that will serve residents of Kieni and neighbouring constituencies,” noted Kieni MP Kanini Kega.

Kega said he was further pushing for more funds to upgrade Kieni Dairy in efforts to add milk value and boost dairy farming in the region and create employment.

“If indeed Karemenu dam which has been used as a campaign tool since time in memorial will come to be, total connection of electricity to every resident, construction of Kiawara level 4 hospital and Kiawara KMTC among other allocations,If all these shall come to pass under the Jubilee regime the people of Kieni will forever be indebted and glad to all who will make it happen. It’s easy said than done, the ball is now in your court. Make it happen sir,”Ken Wahome noted on area Mp facebook page.
