Private security workers offering services to Nairobi County Government have gone for six months without a pay.

The workers from Magic Security Company guarding several installation owned by Nairobi County have been reporting to work without pay since last year

Kenya National Private Security Workers Union (KNPSWU) has now asked Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to intervene and ensure the guards are paid.

“Guards are human beings with necessities and needs to accomplish, they have families, children and various responsibilities to take care of, how do we expect them to manage this without pay,” said  Isaac Andabwa the National General Secretary of KNPSWU.

Andabwa said it was unfortunate that six months down the line, the officers have been reporting on duty without salaries.

“The client is the County Government of Nairobi who are supposed to lead by example in terms of remuneration and welfare matters for the employees,” noted Andabwa

The union has now taken up the matter despite Magic Security Company not being a members of KNPSWU

“These are worker’s that brave harsh working conditions be it day or night to protect life and property,” added Andabwa

The Union gave support to the Magic Security Officer’s in Cash and food and promised to follow up the matter at the ministry of labour

“We condemn such unfair treatment towards workers, itis sad, majority of the families have disintegrated, hit by stress and frustrations due to inability to sustain themselves financially.

Andabwa said his union will not relent in ensuring welfare of all private security guards are protected
