The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) offices will remain open until 30th June 2019, to facilitate payment and filing of tax returns by all PIN holders.
The offices comprises all Customs offices including Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and iTax Service Centers countrywide to facilitate taxpayers to pay and file their 2018 and other prior annual tax returns.
“Customs offices supporting port operations are open 24 hours to facilitate customs services whereas the iTax Service Centers will operate from 7:00AM-9: 00 PM. The Contact Centre shall be operational from 6:00AM-12:00 Midnight”. The Deputy Commissioner, Marketing and Communication Grace Wandera said.
She went on to add that Taxpayers are also encouraged to file their tax returns from their comfort zones using iTax platform.
Grace noted that incase of any general tax inquiries, taxpayers can access KRA tax returns filing and other services by contacting KRA Call Centre through their official contacts.
“All taxpayers are therefore encouraged to utilize all these platforms to ensure that they remain compliant and avoid penalties for late or failure to submit a tax return. This will enable them to acquire Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC), which is a critical document in accessing services.” Said Grace.
A lot of taxpayers deem filing tax returns is voluntary and therefore dismiss it as unnecessary and burdensome.
Filing tax returns is an annual activity seen as a moral and social duty of every responsible citizen of the country.
It is the basis for the government to determine the amount and means of expenditure of the citizens and provides a platform for the assesse to claim refund, among other forms of relief from time to time.
