Isiolo Governor Dr Mohamed Abdi Kuti has appealed to the senate to legalize a law on public partnership to pave way for private investors who have shown interest in running the Isiolo abattoir.
The County boss said the abattoir urgently needs expertise on its operationalization, marketing strategy and value addition on the animal products.
Already, several investors have shown interest and the county has promised come out with a legal framework on interest sharing.
Kuti led a delegation of experts from the World Bank in the assessment of Isiolo abattoir in an effort to ascertain the viability of the project in comparison to other similar facilities in the FCDC region.
The experts will be visiting the other abattoirs in Garissa,Wajir and Marsabit to find out which two facilities among the four should be funded for quick completion and operationalization.
Governor Kuti appealed to the World bank team for further funding as Isiolo abattoir is strategically placed compared to the others and due to the proximity of Isiolo International airport, there will be maximum utilization of the project.
The county boss added that the county government is ready to sensitize Isiolo livestock traders on importance of cooperatives formation and fodder production.
The Abattoir was started way back in 2007 by the national government and handed over to the County government of Isiolo in 2014, but it has taken long to begin operations due to lack of adequate funding to meet the international standards required.
The Governor said he is optimistic that Isiolo abattoir will be selected ahead of the other four as the county government, through the department of livestock has already complied to all infrastructural requirements proposed by the World Bank a few months ago before they embark on the process of equipping the multimillion facility.
