Nyeri Governor H.E. Mutahi Kahiga has restructured his cabinet to ensure efficiency in delivering services.
The County Public Service Department has been merged with Sanitation and Environment. The docket will be headed by CEC Beth Karimi who has been in-charge since the inception.
Sanitation and Environment was hived from Water Department which was being headed by CEC Fredrick Kinyua. Kinyua will now be in-charge of Water and Irrigation Services Department.
ICT which has been under the Department of Education and Sports has been moved to the Governor’s office.
Education and Sports Department will still be under CEC Margaret Macharia as it was before.
He said this will increase supervisory roles for better vibrancy of the county.
The Governor announced this after chairing the 61st executive meeting of his cabinet today.
The other departments remained untouched. The County Government of Nyeri runs 10 departments.
Governor Kahiga urged CEC Karimi to ensure that the spotlight will be on waste management to improve sanitation in Nyeri.
CEC Kinyua was also advised to ensure there are more water projects in the county and available clean piped water for the people of Nyeri.
The changes in the departments have since been gazetted under Gazette Notice No. 681 dated 15th January 2020.
The cabinet meeting was attended by all CECs.
